Vienna, belly dancing festival and other things

Image
It's been a while since I've written a post here. A lot of things happened. Things with my boyfriend are going well. We do try to see each other as many times as possible. Though he does go home every weekend, which makes meeting on a Saturday hard, but at least I have the weekends to play. Maybe we can work out a better schedule from January. We went to Vienna on December 4th though. It was cool as I hadn't been there for about 20 years. We did have a good time and he loved it. It was his first time abroad. He can understand now when I talk about how hard it is to come back to Hungary. You just don't want to. I guess we do have to though. One thing we did agree on was that next time we travel, we do it in warmer weather. It was really cold. Freezing even. On the train there we didn't have a place ticket, which we will need to get next time. I ended up sitting on the floor and he stood. I did tell him to sit down on the ground with me. On

Not eating enough again

Originally on CalorieCount: So my calories are supposed to be around 1300kcal a day. I'm zig-zaging, but not keeping count of how much I eat overall during the week, just go below 1300kcal one day and somewhat over the next. At least, that is what I should be doing. Lately, I have not been able to keep my high calorie days. I would have a Starbucks caramel mocha for dinner, but my calories for breakfast and lunch had been so low, I'm just not even reaching 1200kcal. Today should also be a high calorie day, so I'm planning on trying to keep it. What I was thinking is that if I drink enough milk, I can get my calories up. Hopefully I will be able to keep to that. The weekend is coming up though and my fridge is emptying out. I should go grocery shopping, but I just don't know what to get. Whenever I go I just get milk. I should dream up some food for the weekend, but I just can't think of anything. Though on a happier note, I did go bell

A lot of things happened besides being sick again

Image
I felt like I was getting sick, so I posted a dieting while sick post on CalorieCount. It's a great site where I can track how much I eat. I felt my lungs and throat getting worse, so on Friday I stayed at home and now I'm home sick for the week. Still working from Wednesday though. On Sunday I also had my period and the cramps just got worse and worse. Could hardly breathe, the slight feeling I had in my lungs intensified at the intense cramps and then just everything started coming out of me... you get the picture. So my mom called an ambulance and I got a shot. I guess it may be a bad sign if I'm not bothered by needles anymore. So I fell asleep after they left and in the morning I felt much better, but my stomach took such a beating that I couldn't eat anything for 2 days, just crackers. Have you seen the calories on those??? Though I only ate 1 box a day, so that would be around 1300kcal. I'm starting to eat normally, but yesterday I was so full of breakf

1300 yesterday and chocolate today.

Originally on CalorieCount: I ate 1300kcal yesterday. Today I don't really want to eat that much, just keep it 1200kcal, because my bar was red. But breakfast was porridge and a little piece of chocolate. I'm not sure how many calories that was, because it's a hand made sweet. Based on other stuff I'd had, I'd estimate it around 100kcal. It's not big, but it is like a Mon Cheri, but a hand made version. Sadly, I can't find any data on Mon Cheri either here. Maybe they don't have that in the US. So I searched around on Hungarian sites and found that I was wrong, it's only 56kcal, so I'm sticking with that. Then I also had some more chocolate as my colleague brought some from Switzerland. Seriously, who can resist that? I'll base my estimation on the Milka bars I usually buy. So yeah, we'll see what all this will amount to. I may go to 1300 today as well. I think what I'll do with the chocolate is that I'll use for the whole a

Pictures uploaded and upped my calories

Originally on CalorieCount: I've decided to up my calories to 1200kcal. I did loose more when I ate more. I have dinner to go and 140kcal to eat. I hope my milkshake and a peach will be enough. It will be weird. I may start eating meat again, maybe for breakfast. On a topic someone wrote that they would make a big piece of chicken over the weekend and eat that throughout the week. Maybe I'll do something like that. Of course, I would only make a little bit as I live alone. I also uploaded some more recent pics to CalorieCount. The one I had was kind of older, but we did take a couple on August 20th, so I put some up from those.

The failure of calories in, calories out?

Originally on CalorieCount: Okay, so over the weekend, when I ate a lot, I lost 1kg. Great. Now I'm back on my 1000kcal a day regime, okay, maybe a tiny bit over by like 30kcal, but anyway, I'm back to eating strict. I even got out the scales and measure everything exactly now, where before I would just measure with my eyes. I gain 3dkg a day. What? Isn't loosing weight supposed to be about calories in, calories out? I'm supposed to burn almost 1500kcal a day just by existing. Then I added what I normally move about in a day and that's an extra 200-300kcal if I don't go exercising. I also belly dance on some days, which is an extra 447kcal / class. So, I'm supposed to have a calorie deficit of about 700-1100kcal a day on weekdays! So why am I gaining? And I only eat 3 pieces of small cookies a day, 32kcal each, no other sugar added. Otherwise I'm eating vegetables, dairy and whole grains. So what the heck??? I should be shedding pou

Weekend cheat days ... but still lost weight ...

Originally on CalorieCount: Weekends are my problematic days. When I'm at work and get my daily vegan lunch, I'm fine. I can also keep myself away from the chocolate vending machine that is like 10 steps away by thinking of my colleagues. What will they think if they see overweight me buying something? By the time I get home I'm usually too tired to think of eating, so I just drink some milk or something. For the weekends I try to not keep any food around. Though I do occasionally buy some biscuits for my breakfast. If I had nothing sweet at all, I would tend to pig out on something more. But this weekend I did have a 12-piece box of lemon creme biscuits and a whole bar of Milka chocolate with mints. I should not have bought that bar, but I thought I could keep myself to only eating one row a day. How wrong I had been. Come Saturday and I started off wrong. I ate about 6 biscuits, 84kcal each. Then I had lunch, which was fish, about 570kcal. Then I saw

I ate too much (1181kcal) :(

Image
Originally on CalorieCount: Today I ate too much, 1181kcal. I was fine all day, but after work I wanted to buy a new smaller black bag and also my dance slippers are falling off my feet, so I had to get new ones. The same shop sells both in a mall, so I went there. However, the weather has been crazy all day. It looked like rain in the morning and then the sun came out. I took some caffeine pills and a headache pill, but I still felt dizzy. My blood pressure is so low and in weather like this it just plumets. So I had this monster headache and then the world tilted under my feet. I just had to get something coffee-like in me, but nothing hot. I stopped at a McDonald's Café and I saw this Iced Mocha. I just couldn't resist. Just by looking at it I knew it was 300kcal. Actually, 310. But it did taste really good. I didn't add sugar, but there was some in the whipped cream. Then I got home and had an apple, 90kcal. So now I'm way over my 1000 limit.

Under 1000kcal a day - but not starving

Originally on CalorieCount: I'm currently on a diet where I'm eating under 1000kcal a day. This does seem very little, but since I've decided to order food from a vegan place, it has been more doable. Before I only had a raw salad for lunch and I was constantly hungry. Now, I eat a good mix of vegetables and some good grains. These grains, while filling are actually low in calorie. But what does fit into 1000kcal? All the measurements are in grams. Breakfast Coffee, Instant - With Sugar, Cappuccino-flavor PowderC+ 14g 57kcal Lactose-Free Skim Milk - RichfoodB+ 24cl 90kcal Bread, Whole-wheat, Commercially PreparedA 56g 138kcal Light Cherry Jam - Vitamor10g 11kcal See, breakfast is not bad. I even get some sugar in there. 296kcal. The Aros Center, Portree

Full version with pictures and videos:  http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/United-Kingdom/Scotland/Inverness-shire/Isle-of-Skye/blog-516694.html Sunday. On Sundays no buses run on Skye. So I decided to stay in Portree. The whole place is not that big, so I’ve already seen most of it. The weather was pretty bad, strong winds and rain.   On my way out I realised I had left my cap in the room. The day before I forgot it and when the rain was really bad, I could have used it. So I went back to get it. I ran into the wife and she told me about the Aros Center.   It’s a tourist center with a restaurant, shop, cinema, internet. Only four computers, but mostly unused, probably because not many know about it.   She explained where it was and I decided to check it out. It was quite a long way, mostly uphill, but I kept on walking. I did consider turning back a couple of times or thought that perhaps I had misunderstood something and went the wrong way. But the scenery was nice f

The Old Man of Storr and Other Wanderings

For the fuller version with photos and videos go to:  http://www.travelblog.org/fred.php?id=516415 Got up at 7 and was down for breakfast by 8. I got coffee, orange juice, porridge and some toast. I put some sugar into my porridge. I’ve never had it before, but I did like it. It reminded me of a Hungarian dish called “tejbegríz”, which is essentially very similar, it’s grain mixed into milk and cooked as well. However, we put cocoa powder on it and the grain is finer as we use grits and porridge uses oats. Good all the same. I also talked with John and told him where I was going. I planned to go to the Old Man of Storr, which is one of the walks I had planned. He told me to note his phone number in case I got stranded somewhere. So I got ready and went to the town center as my bus would leave from there. On the but I go a dayrider. A couple I saw on the bus coming here was also headed to the Storr. I took notice of them as the guy reminded me of a colleague I had, just blond

From Glasgow To Portree

Full version with pictures: http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/United-Kingdom/Scotland/Inverness-shire/Isle-of-Skye/blog-515812.html I woke up an hour early, but only realised it once I was all dressed. I forgot to set the time back on my phone. I remedied that and went down to breakfast when I could. Apparently you have to pay for cooked breakfast, but coffee and toast with jam was included. I got back to the room, and soon I was off. I had over an hour for getting to Buchanan station, so I took some pictures on the way. Got a bowl of salad at Subway for food. I took a lot of pictures on George square. I had to go up a really step street to the station. I was early there and bought some mags and drank a coffee. At the coffee place I still didn’t know the English coins, but the coffee wasn’t all that much, and I had several, so I wanted to pay with them. I was trying to work out what combination I could do with them and which coin was worth what, when I just got confused and

Flying, Sleeping in Glasgow

Version with pictures: http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/United-Kingdom/Scotland/Lanarkshire/Glasgow/blog-511811.html I'm finally on my way! It seems like I've been planning this trip for ages. I did want to see Scotland since I saw Highlander, but I decided to go last year. In February I bought the plane tickets, reserved the B&Bs. Today I woke up nervous. My nerves have been getting to me, so no relaxing. I did watch Top Chef and ate my lunch for breakfast. I packed everything I could last night. I added the remaining things, got dressed, did my hair in a bun and put on make-up. Still nervous. I checked my lists again and after making sure I had everything, I went on my way. I also took out the garbage. I'm wearing jeans, a grey top and sandals. Probably the most genius part of my outfit is the work-out bra. I have a Fit Dry Nike and it's great. It holds, no wires and you can't sweat in them. They're so great, I'm wondering why I'm n

Tomorrow is the day

Tomorrow I'm embarking on my epic journey through Scotland. I am worried about stuff, but I'm trying not to. The biggest thing that I worry about is the room reservations. I hope no problem is going to arrise from those. A tiny thing that could present a problem is the last night in Edinburgh. The B&B says that check-out is after 7am, but that is when my plane leaves. I couldn't get a later plane, because I have to change in London and the plane to Hungary leaves quite early. So I have to leave the place around 5am. I'll discuss it with the people there once I'm there. Hopefully we'll be able to come to some sort of an agreement about it. If not, then I'm not sure what I'll do. Maybe get a night at the Euro Hostel or something. I'll talk to them when I get there and if there's a problem, I can still look for a solution. It's just one night, after all.
